Technical Writing

Technical writing is a specialized form of exposition: that is, written communication done on the job, especially in fields with specialized vocabularies, such as science, engineering, technology, and the health sciences. Along with business writing, technical writing is often subsumed under the heading of professional communication.

As its name suggests, technical writing is different than any other types of writing in terms of following features:

Clarity

Technical writing describes the necessary information very clearly. This type of writing doesn’t create any sort of confusion for the reader.

Coherence

Since technical writing involves some specifications and proper nouns, conherent usage of terms and expression will not incur any other confusion among others.

Conciseness

Technical writing is a kind of writing which goal is to assist a person by providing valuable information. But it shouldn’t be a longer document which will fail to keep the interest of the reader.

Problem-solving Focus

Technical writing is basically written for solving problems. One will read technical writing to learn how to perform certain tasks or gain valuable information. So, the solution should be given in a legible way.

According to Wikipedia, Technical writer is a professional information communicator whose task is to transfer information between two or more parties, through any medium that best facilitates the transfer and comprehension of the information. Related sectors are diversified, including software, technology and manufacturing

In short, a technical writer is a person who tells readers or audience what is the product, how to use the product or other information that people who use the product should know.
In some companies, the position assuming technical writing may be technical communicator, documentation enginner or any other titles related.


Tasks

Normally, a technical writer composes documents, as well as proofreading documents and UI.

Writing skills
